School Dress Code Policy

Purpose

The Maidens Park Primary School Board has implemented the following Dress Code in consultation with the school community. Consultation and revision of the policy are ongoing and subject to change by the Board for the betterment of the school.

The School Board believes the Dress Code will:

  • Enhance the public image of the school

  • Encourage equality

We encourage all children to wear uniform items every day to school.

For the health and well-being of the child, it is necessary that students are clean and well-groomed, as this will help them to develop and maintain a positive self-image.

Hair

  • Shoulder length or longer hair should be kept tied back from the face
  • Hair should be neatly groomed and kept out of the eyes
  • Hair scrunches, hair clips, and headbands are allowed

Jewellery

  • Studs or sleeper earrings are allowed (for safety reasons, they should be small and not dangly)
  • Watches
  • ‘Medic Alert’ bracelets or necklaces

Cosmetics

  • The wearing of cosmetics is not acceptable. This includes nail polish and temporary tattoos.

Shoeless Activities

Sometimes, the children will be asked to remove their shoes and socks to gain the optimum value from a gross motor activity such as climbing on the outdoor structures, moving to music, playing in the undercover sandpit, etc. (sand-filled shoes present a cleaning issue.) Teachers assess each situation to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.

Availability of Dress Code Items

School uniform tops and hats are available for purchase from the school office. Bottoms can be purchased from any retailer. Please mark all items with your child’s name. Name tapes or a laundry or permanent-ink pen work well for labelling.

Policy Review

We trust that parents and carers will fully support this School Dress Code to ensure all children's health and well-being, including a sense of belonging, pride, and positive self-image.

The policy shall be reviewed every two (2) years or as necessary to reflect the needs of our community.

The next review date will be February 2026
